Dr. Melissa Perreault presents at the 2024 AISES Canada East Conference

The IBI Crosscultural Working Group Lead, Dr. Melissa L. Perreault, presented Two-Eyed Seeing and Other Dual Perspectives in Neuroscience at the 2024 Advancing Indigenous People in STEM (AISES) Canada East Conference held on Nov 1 - 3, 2024 at Queen’s University, Kingston, ON, Canada.

Two-Eyed Seeing and Other Dual Perspectives in Neuroscience

The integration of Indigenous perspectives and knowledge with biomedical approaches in the neurosciences can significantly broaden the understanding of the human brain and mind. Dr. Perreault discussed how Two-Eyed Seeing and other dual perspectives from around the world can bring both breadth of knowledge and humility to the development of research and clinical practices for brain health. Dr. Perreault described challenges and considered solutions, and discussed broad strategies for ally-ship and humility, as well as for capacity building. As neuroscience becomes ever more global, inclusive and ethically proactive, it must universally see the world of brain and mental health hrough the eyes of both reductionism and holism.
