Welcome to the new online home of the International Brain Initiative!

We are so pleased to welcome you to the new online home of the International Brain Initiative (IBI). The IBI is a coalition of seven major national initiatives around the world today in Australia, Canada, China, Europe, Japan, Korea, and the USA, and two affiliates in Finland and New Zealand.

Joined by our Partners and members of the Funding Advisory Council, our mission is to promote global neuroscience. Our vision is that neuroscientists will find unrealized, border-free opportunities for collaboration through the coalition that has, at its core, unparalleled national investments in discovery neuroscience, education and outreach.

What separates IBI from other neuroscience entities?

The IBI is not a professional association of neuroscientists such as the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) or its affiliates, the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), or the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS).  We do not seek membership dues from individual neuroscientists, nor gather them together in, or for, regular conferences. Our writ, rather, is to work actively to engage with longstanding international neuroscience societies to transcend international borders in pursuit of immediate priority topics pursued by IBI’s Working Groups, and longer-term goals for expanding neuroscience on a global scale that are undeterred and uninterrupted by political agenda.

This moonshot for the IBI is the empowerment and inspiration of a new generation of neuroscientists who will revolutionize the understanding of the brain and drive transformative scientific breakthroughs. The seamless ability to look beyond traditional boundaries and work in pursuit of knowledge, innovation, and impact was enabled by the IBI and is defined in the original Declaration of Intent in 2016.

Today, it is our deep privilege to lead this new generation.

We look forward to hearing from you and to your engagement with us toward shared goals.

Judy Illes, CM, PhD (IBI Chair) and Anthony Hannan, PhD (IBI Co-Chair)
