Job Summary
A key position with the IBI Secretariat at UBC is available immediately for one year. The IBI is seeking for a highly motivated individual who holds a Master’s or PhD degree in any discipline with a background in neuroscience and policy/communication/development. With the mission to advance global brain health, the Executive Director (ED) will develop strategies and funding opportunities for the IBI. Working closely with the IBI Chair, Co-Chair, and Executive Committee, the ED will serve as a key liaison to the participating IBI Initiatives, Affiliates, Partners, and Funding Advisory Council.

The work may be fulfilled in-person or remotely.
The position is renewable with the availability of funding.

Work Performed
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

(1) Develop strategies and grant applications for the future of the IBI.
(2) Build up the Affiliates program, making the IBI the central connector for emerging national initiatives seeking worldwide collaboration.
(3) Liaise with Working Group Leads to culminate their promised deliverables and sunset or renew their activities.
(4) Work with the participating initiatives (Australia, Canada, China, Europe, Japan, Korea, USA), to establish IBI branches. The first under consideration is in Hainan, China.
(5) Work on global patient engagement through activities and workshops.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD degree in any discipline with a background in neuroscience and policy/communication/ development.

  • Excellent academic credentials.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a position involving similar responsibilities.

  • Extensive team and project management experience.

  • Demonstrated skills in business development.

  • Established credibility and ability to convene effectively with decision-makers and key players in research and innovation activities in the field of neurology (asset).

  • Computer proficiency.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. 

Supervision Received
Reports to the IBI Chairs. Must be highly self-directed, taking initiative and working independently under the general direction of the IBI Chair and Co-Chair. Direction may be provided on occasion from other IBI Executive Committee Members. Performance will be evaluated against set objectives. The ED will work closely with the IBI Events and Operations Director.

Consequence of Error
Failure to use good judgement, organize work, or provide accurate information regarding the IBI key activities and related communications would have a serious direct or indirect impact on the credibility of the professional and stakeholder communities. All activities must adhere to the highest standards of excellence and ethics. Inappropriate management of confidential documents and information could have an adverse effect on faculty, staff, students, or on collaborative partners.
